My tackle box has so many different lure types and colors, but yet in the end, I mostly use live or formally live bait.
I started as a little boy digging for earth worms and fishing the local lakes and ponds for blue gill or anything that would land on a little kid’s hook and evolved to cast netting or buying bait to fish for larger salt water game fishes. However, through the years, whether it be from sales at local sport shops, auctions, yard, or estate sales I have amassed quite a few lures. Rarely, I will pull out a lure at random just because it looks neat (or it still has a package and shows a picture of a fish I might want) and will throw it out into the waters to try my luck. Through this non scientific approach (dumb luck to be honest) I have managed to catch a few fish on lures such as bass, Atlantic mackerel, pollock, flounder, trout, and lady fish.
I recently had a friend send me a graphic on lure colors (from FIX.com and shown below), and it had me revived into wanting to learn more about lures and utilizing the lures I have amassed over the years. I found the info-graphic very interesting and started thinking about the science behind lures and improving my odds from dumb luck to informative selection.
I have gathered up a few external sources below on the topic of lure colors for broadening one’s knowledge base on the subject. There are a couple articles and YouTube videos directly below that I hope will provide some new insight in how the fish sight…your lures.
